Amarillo By Morning!

9 Oct 2010--For those of you who don't listen to country music, the blog title is a country song.

Left New Mexico yesterday and came into Amarillo, Tx. for 6 days. This Amarillo sign is over the bridges...cute with the boots, huh?

We are staying at this RV Park...I put up the pics so that our friends Lynn and Breena can check it out. They are going to be managing a new RV Resort near Dallas that will be 10 times this size...literally...so I thought they would want to see a couple pics of this one. Lynn, look how big the site we are on is. And everyone knows I love these parks with all the concrete.

We are just hanging out watching football today, but we did drive down the road to Petsmart to get some cookies for Fluffy. Along the way, actually right up the street from where we are staying on Route 66, is the "Cadillac Ranch". The story goes that back in 1974, Amarillo billionaire Stanley Marsh paid some San Fransisco hippies to come up with a piece of public art to baffle the locals here. They came up with this...on Stanley's land are 10 buried Cadillacs, buried nose down and glorified tail fin in the air. People would stop by the side of the road and deface and/or remove parts of the tail fins...which is now encouraged. You can see spray paint cans on the ground, and the kid in the Tennessee orange pic has a paint can in his hand.

  1. Concrete RV parks? How depressing. They remind me of the drive-in movie lots. The cars look like what they are driving around in up on Blue Hill Avenue.
    Enjoy your stay!

  6. Paula, If you are in the area when they spray paint you can get a high. We were amazed at the paint cans they just throw around. But thats what they are there for. There must be 16 layers of paint on each car.
