"Boy, Was It Worth It!!!"

23 Jun 2015--I got the eagle for you Patti!!!  We actually saw 2 eagles flying together at the end of our day yesterday, but I couldn't focus the camera fast enough to catch them before they separated, so I only got this one.  Against that mountain, isn't it majestic looking!!!

We started our day heading out to the Worthington Glacier.  This is about 30 miles up the road from the town of Valdez, so we went long and then made our way back as we stopped to take pics.  This road is considered "One of America's Most Scenic"...and we would heartily agree!  It definitely gets colder as you get closer, but you warm up a little as you walk up to it, probably because you are distracted by everything around you.  haha

It's surprising how much dirt and rocks are falling on top of the glacier and all around us.  You can't see that from a distance, so it looks really different up close.  Here we were trying to show the blue hue in the crevices...you could see it better with the naked eye.

This really wasn't the smartest place for me to be.  I wanted to show you how big this cavern is in relationship to my height, and for you to see some of the gushing water falling behind me, but it wasn't long before we heard a rather loud cracking-type noise and I got the heck out of there!  haha

The water is really ripping through there, as best seen in the 2nd pic here and then the video.  In the 3rd pic Cathy had been taking a picture of me, on the side of a rock, videoing the water above her.

On down towards Valdez again, another unnamed glacier at Thompson Pass. I think the 4th and last picture before the video, where Cathy is standing on 2 different rocks, are stunning!  In the video I tried to give you a 360 degree view of what we were seeing, and followed that with some stitch pics.

Bridal Veil Falls.  I totally screwed up one of the 2 best pictures we had of the day.  Cathy had taken an incredible picture on her camera, where you could see this waterfall and rainbow in full, living color...looked like a postcard...and I erased all her pics by mistake.  I could scream, and I'm sure she wanted to kill me! Yikes!

Horsetail Falls.

A little game of "Where's Waldo" shows how tall these actually are.  Can you find Cathy in the 1st pic here?

Or in the 1st or even the zoomed in a little 2nd pic here?

Now, wasn't that fun!   haha  This is the Robe Lake area, with some nesting swans floating around.

This is where I should have shown the eagles, because I took them as we were driving through town, but I had to show those right away for Patti...haha.  Here is a picture as you come into town, our RV Park, and outside a restaurant right up the street.

So, another beautiful day in the neighborhood!  Seems like everywhere we go there is so much to see we should have booked a month instead of a week, just not enough time to see everything.

  4. Oh WOW !!! I love the mountains and the Glaciers. Is that ice down the side of the mountain? My favorite pics are the ones where both of you are lifting your arms to the heavens !!!! The eagle pics are awesome also. That pic near the top of both of you and the mountains in the background is beautiful, frameable.

    1. Not sure what pic you mean when asking "is that ice down the side of the mountain"? Most of the white in the mountains that is primarily horizontal is snow, while the glaciers with the snow sorta running down the mountains is ice. And my hardest task, Marie, is deciding which pics not to post on the blog...so many good ones!!!

  6. Wow! Amazing pics, gals! When I came back from there I thought it was so overcrowded here...it takes some time to get used to the rest of the world again.

It's not what you look at; it's what you see.
